We were deeply saddened by the sudden death of our Senior Winemaker and friend, Wayne Stehbens on November 5th 2017. Greg Clayfield temporarily assumed the role of winemaker until mid 2018.Greg has decades of winemaking experience in Coonawarra, including Zema Estate, Rouge Homme and Wynns. Greg was awarded the 1988 International Winemaker of the Year.
We look forward to welcoming Katnook's new Senior Winemaker, Tim Heath - who will be joining us late June 2018 after 15 years winemaking at Cloudy Bay in New Zealand.
Until then, Wayne's bio will remain on our site for now, so that we can share his extraordinary contribution to Katnook, Coonawarra and the wine industry at large.
We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of Wayne Stehbens, on 5th November 2017. Wayne started with Katnook's "second chapter" which began in 1979. He was one of Australia's longest serving and most successful winemakers.
Over the course of his career Wayne received numerous awards and accolades. He won two Jimmy Watson Trophies (1987 and 1998) and a double trophy at the prestigious International Wine & Spirit Competition in 2003.
With a background in horticulture in New Zealand, Chris Brodie joined the Katnook Estate team in 1997.
He oversees integrated viticultural management systems which take into account the four key elements for optimal grape quality: water, plant nutrition, pest and disease control and sunlight. Chris is also a board member of the Australian Society of Viticulture and Oenology (ASVO).

Since 1994, Michelle has offered the warmest welcome possible to visitors to Katnook Cellar Door.
Michelle also manages the Katnook Cellar Club, weddings and functions with remarkable efficiency and professionalism.
